The Elkader Public Library is open by appointment only. Please call the library at 245-1446 to make an appointment.

People with appointments may use the library for 30 minutes to check out library materials or to use computers. We will request that visitors use hand sanitizer, wear a mask, and observe social distancing while in the library.

Our no-contact service of providing library materials for pick up in our entryway will continue during this time, as well. Items may be requested by phone, or by reserving them through patrons’ library accounts and the library’s online catalog.

The Elkader Public Library offers a wide variety of materials in many different formats. In addition to fiction and nonfiction books for every age, there are audio books, DVDs, magazines, newspapers, puzzles, cake pans and more! The Elkader Public Library also offers free wireless internet.

How to Log in to the Elkader Public Library and Renew and Reserve Materials Online

• From this website, click on the “Catalog” tab.

• In the upper right corner, click on “Log in” using your library card number and phone number. It will tell you “Logged in as (your library card number).”

• Click on the “My Account” button right under this.

• At the top of the window that opens, there will be Account Info; Notifications; Items Out/Renewals; Reserves/Requests; Bookmarks; History.

• Click on “Items Out/Renewals.” It should open a list of what you have checked out and on the right there should be a button that says “Renew.”

• Once you click the “Renew” button, it should tell you that the item was “Successfully Renewed” and list the new due date.

To Reserve an item: ?Follow first three step above, then:

• Use the "Find" area to search for the item you wish to put on reserve.
• Click on item.
• Click the "Reserve this item" button.
• Follow prompts about method of notification

• Click on "Place Reserve."

About Elkader:

Elkader is a unique community and home to the Keystone Bridge This keystone bridge is known as the longest of its type west of the Mississippi river. It is 346 feet long and was built of locally quarried limestone in 1889. Construction of the bridge lasted nine months at a cost of $16,282. In later years a sidewalk was added to the north side of the bridge. The State Preservation Program nominated this bridge to the National Register of Historic Places in January 1976.
